Self-employed home-workers must equip their homes with fire doors

Myth: Due to the European Commission self-employed people working
from home have to comply with the EC’s Directive on the use of Personal Protective Equipment (89/656/EEC; 30.11.89), which forces them to rehang all doors in their house that are not fire resistant.

Response: This is totally untrue. There are a number of directives that deal with the health and safety of workers, and they cover a wide breadth of application, but in no way do they perscribe conditions protecting the worker at home against fire.
