I warmly welcome the results of today’s vote on the EU-Mauritania Fisheries Partnership Agreement: the European Parliament has given its consent to this ethical and fair Protocol by a huge majority. It is a very important step. This Agreement is a good legal framework, based on three principles: sustainability, value for money and fairness.
The improvements brought to the Protocol are significant and are in line with the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy and with environmental concerns. Furthermore, they also contribute to improving Mauritania’s revenue as well as security and fight against terrorism in the region. This Protocol is not only an example of sustainable Fisheries agreement but is a wider key element to the implementation of the EU’s cooperation programme.
I hope this fair and sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement will be a model for future negotiations with third countries.EU-MAURITANIA: A MODEL OF NEW FISHERIES AGREEMENT,
