Sara holds a Law Degree from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a MSc in Health Economics, Policy and Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam with a specialization in reputation management in the hospital sector. Before joining the Joint Research Centre, Sara was a Trainee Policy Officer at the eHealth and Health Technology Assessment Unit of the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), European Commission. During that time, Sara was responsible for the collection of evidence on the effectiveness of eHealth and mHealth solutions and for the identification of the challenges and opportunities of the use of Big Data in public health policy and research which resulted in a report. Before joining the European Commission, Sara was a Behavioural Lab Manager at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she was responsible for co-designing and running research experiments in consumer behaviour and business economics. Sara informs policy with a more realistic model of human behaviour.
