A warm day in Warsaw

Cecilia Malmström speaking at the Cosac meeting in the Polish Senate

I am back in Warsaw for various activities with the Polish EU Presidency. The weather is hot and stuffy but there is not much time to enjoy the Polish capital. I started the day off by speaking at a conference arranged by the Polish together with UNHCR in view of the upcoming 60th anniversary of the Geneva Convention in the end of July. I spoke about the ongoing work to get the Common European Asylum System in place. The Polish have high ambitions and a lot of interesting ideas on how to break the deadlock in some of the most difficult issues within this area.

After having left the conference I went to the Senate, where Poland hosted a so called COSAC meeting. COSAC is an organisation for national parliamentarians in EU committees from the whole EU and the candidate countries. We had long discussions on the Southern and Eastern Partnerships, migration, Schengen, etcetera.

I just finished a long working lunch with Minister of the Interior Jerzy Miller where we went through the whole list of issues that we need to work on the coming months. And the list is quite long. Next week I’ll be back in Poland again, but this time I will go to Sopot for the informal ministerial council meeting.
