With all due respect, Ms. Kroes, you haven’t learned an awful lot. On the other hand, what would you expect from a free market extremist with a deep contempt for democracy and a strange affection for German aristocrats?

No, Mrs. Kroes, you haven’t learned enough! Sorry for being frank, but what you learned within 2011, could be learned in a sole week! What about the things you really messed up in 2011? For instance, rehabilitating a proven fraudster and liar by shoving a significant advisor position on to him! Why doing such an insane thing, there is no single cogent reason for choosing him. How much were you paid? 500000… 2 or 5 million euros?! Hey, everybody knows this guy is incredibly rich, so what? But don’t take us for a ride telling us that Mr. zu Guttenberg is “talented” or “competent”—he isn’t (except for lying), and you should know it damn well!

One of the first things I learned in my life was, not to cheat on other people. You could as well call it “respect”.

We never stop learning, and I am finding the more I learn the less I know. What I am also finding is that when I find something I don’t know, I know where to find the answer. Internet access gives me the power to find out anything. It is vital that everyone has access. It is no good believing the incumbent telcos who assure government that they are providing that access when it is clear that they aren’t. We need to get help and support to other communities and groups who want to build their own networks. With decent pipes out into rural areas everyone can have a connection, and so can the masts, which provide mobile access too.
Happy New Year to you and your team, and keep up the good work. We have a long way to go before everyone has a connection fit for purpose in this brave new world.

  7. Despite the negative comments above I did like the new year’s speech. Of course this does not serve as a scientific talk with all kinds of innovations people never heard of. I see it more as a way of inspiring people, keeping them motivated, and letting them know that the EU is following and supporting recent developments. For this reason I was pleasantly surprised to see that Brain Computer Interfaces appeared in this talk.
I hope the talk will inspire other people as well to keep pushing for new developments, which -in the end- make all our lives better. From my background as a medical doctor in neurosurgery, I am working on it!

As Mrs Kroes is still in charge the mishap continues.
People like her will make the EU project perish…
