Today I told the 17th World Congress on Information Technology (in Amsterdam) that ICT issues of policy issues for everyone. Europe has to act immediately if we are to a broken economy and maybe even a series of broken societies. One of our best ways to avoid this is to develop deep capabilities in digital technology. That inspires me to prompt a broad-based movement for Digital Action to develop these capabilities. Cheap credit and more debt for future generations are not the answers to our problems: the better answer is to harness the potential of ICTs. No other investment option gives a comparative advantage to all sectors. No other investment can match the 50% share of productivity growth that ICTs generate in Europe.
