It was my pleasure today to meet Leonidas Kanellos, incoming 2013 chair of BEREC, the European body comprising all the national telecoms regulators. We agreed above all on our common interest in putting Europe at the forefront, with a strong digital economy (press statement here).

The regulatory framework has a big role to play here – but so do regulators, those who will actually implement the framework on the ground. So we can only achieve our goals with the constructive contribution of those national authorities: and indeed we are now consulting BEREC on the approach I put forward 5 months ago. And I look forward to getting that valuable input in order to better shape our final regulatory guidance.

In taking forward these important tasks and chairing those discussions, Leonidas has my full support. I wish him and his BEREC colleagues all the best for 2013, and am confident that we will continue to discuss and engage constructively together as we did today!

  1. Thomas says:

I am writing just to thank the whole European Comission for blocking the idea in Poland to give extra money to people who want to take credits in banks for buying new houses.
The whole idea of the surcharges makes only the prices of homes go higher to a level a casual familly is not able to afford.
It is not the people who profit from those extra money, but the construction developers. In Poland the free market which would be ruled by logical law of supply and demand is being suffocated.
Please stop the flow of artificial extra money poured into the pockets of banks and bureaucracy.
I am glad that you have opposed to the extra payments to new flats in Poland. Thank you.
