Whilst it is easy to hit out at claims of EU meddling – “Cricket bats hit for six, The Daily Mirror, 16 April 2010 – scratch below the surface and one discovers the ban on methyl bromide stems from a United Nations agreement to protect the environment from damaging ozone depleting substances. This is something the UK, like every other UN member, would be doing whether it was an EU member or not.
