EC to replace traditional street lamps

June 12th, 1993

Statement: The European Commission is responsible for replacing traditional street lamps in conservation areas with steel posts that, because the roads are “more than twelve metres wide”, must be “at least six metres in height”.

Response: This is not true.   There is no EC legislation which stipulates any such thing. Any work in this area is the responsibility of the Member States.
