EC trying to make British pubs display their price lists

July 12th, 1993

Myth: The EC is planning to make British public houses display their price lists

Response: The European Commission has no such intention. Were this decision to be taken, as it has been in some EC countries such as Denmark, it would be taken by respective national governments, and not the EC.

Background:  There is a Directive on consumer protection in the indication of the prices of foodstuffs (Directive 88/315/EEC, amending Directive 79/581/EEC); nevertheless pubs are exempted.
