November 10th, 1992

Myth: Youngsters will be forced to give up their paper-rounds, if the EC Draft Directive on the Protection of Young People at work is adopted by the Council of Ministers.

Response: This is incorrect Young people in full-time education shall be restricted to 15 hours per week and three hours per day for light work but they won’t be losing their jobs. This work must take place outside official school hours. Work hours should generally be between 0600 hrs and 2000 hrs although exceptions may be made. Under no circumstances may young people work between midnight and 0400 hrs.
