Domain names – ‘uk’ to be replaced by ‘.eu’

The European Commission wants the UK to ditch the ‘.uk’ used in Internet addresses and replace it with ‘.eu’. (Daily Mail, page 15, 3 February 2000)

There is no suggestion that the new ‘.eu’ top-level domain would be a replacement for ‘.uk’. It would simply allow companies and institutions that operate in a number of EU states to maintain a single Internet identity.
