We are currently conducting a study on the future of the European non-ferrous metals industry, the second case study in the framework of our project on the future of industry. The project is set in the context of the broader initiative of the European Commission to increase the competitiveness of European industries by 2020. The aim of this study is to develop a long-term vision of the European non ferrous metals industry sector. The project also aims to identify the opportunities and challenges of the above industrial sector in order to contribute to the implementation of European Union industrial policy goals, namely: (1) ‘speeding up the adjustment of industry to structural changes’; (2) ‘encouraging an environment favorable to initiative and to the development of undertakings throughout the Union; (3) ‘encouraging an environment favorable to cooperation between undertakings’; and (4) ‘fostering better exploitation of the industrial potential of policies of innovation, research and technological development’ (Article 173 Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union).
For this study, we adopt an interactive, participative and future-oriented methodology using workshops with a wide range of stakeholders of the non-ferrous metals industry (e.g., companies, associations, researchers, unions).
The first workshop related to this study will take place on 20 June 2016 and 21 June 2016 in Brussels.
