SME Assembly 2022 — Meet This Year’s Schumpeter Lecturer, Dr Luc Soete

At each SME Assembly, a leading figure in European entrepreneurship delivers our Schumpeter ‘Innovation in Enterprise’ lecture. Meet Professor Luc Soete, Dean of the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG), VUB who, in just a few days, will be delivering this year’s lecture (which you can livestream via the Promoting Enterprise app).

The SME Assembly is excited to welcome Dr Luc Soete as this year’s Schumpeter lecturer. Dr Soete — who will speak about innovation in enterprise on the first day of the SME Assembly 2022 (November 28 – 30) — is the former Rector Magnificus of Maastricht University and the current dean of the Brussels School of Governance. Outside Europe, he has taught at leading institutions such as Stanford University.

An internationally acclaimed economist, Dr Soete has written numerous book chapters, and articles. He has also received numerous awards, including a Maastricht School of Management Honorary Fellow Award (2002); Commandeur in de Kroonorde (2007); and a Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Ghent (2010).

Dr Soete’s research focuses on innovation and technology and policy and measurement-related issues surrounding both.

In addition to his work in academia, Dr Soete is a member of the European Commission’s Economic and Social Impact of Research (ESIR) expert group and a co-chair of the Scientific Committee of the Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).
