Welcome to the latest edition of the SME Week Newsletter
SME Week 2022 has concluded – and what a week it was! In this issue of the SME
Week newsletter, we keep the spirit of SME Week alive by bringing you all the news
from the event, including highlights from all three days of the SME Assembly 2022,
the results of the European Enterprise Promotion (EEPA) Awards, the European
Small and Mid-Cap Awards and this year’s Youth Essay Competition.
Another big attraction at this year’s SME Assembly was the Schumpeter ‘Innovation
in Enterprise’ Lecture, delivered by Professor Luc Soete, Dean of the Brussels
School of Governance, you can read more about it below.
Also in this issue, we introduce you to some of the entrepreneurs from Secrets of
Success 2022–2023: 33 Under 33 and to some innovative Ukrainian companies that
are managing to make an impact despite the devastation caused by Russian
aggression in their country.
Finally, we would like to extend a big ‘thank you’ to the SME Week community for
your participation and support – it is thanks to you that the event goes from
strength to strength every year.

Amongst the highlights of every SME Assembly are the awards presented to entrepreneurs and other inspiring individuals from across Europe.
This year, three different categories of awards will be given to a number of winners:
- The European Small and Mid-Cap Awards (November 29)
- The European Enterprise Promotion Awards (November 29)
- The Youth Essay Competition Award (November 30)
The European Small and Mid-Cap Awards
The SME Assembly 2022 will host the finals of the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards, which, since 2013, have been promoting best practices amongst SMEs and encouraging them to go public.
The European Enterprise Promotion Awards
The European Enterprise Promotion Awards (EEPA) recognise individuals promoting entrepreneurship at the local, regional, and national level. These awards are divided into six categories through national competitions; a European competition; and, finally, a consensus reached by EEPA jurors.

The Youth Essay Competition Award
As always, the SME Assembly will host the Youth Essay Competition Award, which celebrates original business ideas by some of Europe’s brightest young minds. This year’s finalists — Danijel Bačan (Croatia), Cosmin-Alin Botoroga (Romania), and Viktória Vass (Hungary) — will present their essays live, after which members of the audience will vote for a winner.

The countdown to Europe’s premier SME event has begun! This year’s edition of the SME Assembly will take place between November 28 and 30 in Prague. Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store for those attending in person (and online!).
The SME Assembly 2022 will be hosted by actress Lejla Abbasová (Prince Caspian) and will be packed with educational workshops, masterclasses, webinars, networking opportunities, and inspiring presentations by key European figures in entrepreneurship and innovation. Numerous awards will also be presented throughout the three-day-long event in the picturesque Czech capital.
To kick-off the SME Assembly 2022, attendees will be treated to a tour of the headquarters of the European Space Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). Later that day, Professor Luc Soete, Dean of the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG), VUB will deliver the Schumpeter ‘Innovation in Enterprise’ lecture. Jozef Sikela, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, and Thierry Breton, Member of the European Commission for the Internal Market, will also deliver keynote speeches. Attendees can expect to hear from the European Commission’s Director for Strategy, Outi Slotboom, as well as other notable policymakers, on the final day of the event.
This year’s workshops and masterclasses will revolve around subjects like sustainability, digital transformation, and female entrepreneurship, amongst many others.
Throughout the event, the winners of the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards; European Enterprise Promotion Awards (EEPA); and the Youth Essay Competition will be announced. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with one another during receptions, dinners, and breaks. All attendees both onsite and offline connect and network on the Promoting Enterprise app before, during and after the event.

The countdown has begun! Less than two weeks to go to this year’s SME Week and SME Assembly in Prague on 28-30 November 2022. Ahead of all the excitement of SME Week, in this month’s issue of our newsletter we bring you all the latest news from the European Enterprise Promotion Awards (EEPA), along with a reminder to download the SME Assembly app, to make sure that you get the most out of the SME Assembly 2022.
In addition to the EEPA Awards ceremony, the SME Assembly will also host the finals of this year’s Youth Essay Competition and in this issue, we will introduce you to this year’s three finalists.
We also take a look at how Europe’s food-based SMEs stand to benefit from the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices.
